Rob Sweet is with us today to talk about leadership, team and the “shadow” that can come with being an “Achiever.” No matter where you go for community and good solid Bible teaching, you’ll get a lot out of this conversation (which is one sided because this wanna be interviewer forgot to pack her mic!!!! – which is kind of a big deal when you’re interviewing a person!!) I get so crazy nervous and socially awkward around people I really respect, like today’s guest…..
If you’ve ever seen a flock of birds flying in a “V” formation, you know that every good team has to have a leader and as you’ll see, Rob is a born leader, but his humility makes him approachable- we laughed about my mic fail and ended up with a really great interview.
Last week, you heard an excerpt from a sermon he preached at my church recently. I identified so much with that message- if you haven’t heard Ep 63 yet, go grab that! We’ll wait right here. :-0)
Rob will expound on the approval idol he touched on last week, which resonates with me on so many levels. Also, Rob agrees that sometimes it seems that God, in His mysterious Goodness, sets us up to be disappointed with our own devices so we’ll be led back to Him. Rob calls it “a redemptive frustration.”
I’m part of the community in which Rob serves and I can tell you firsthand, that his process of repenting from the shadow side of his ambition-driven tendency has definitely affected the culture of our church body. We get to reap the benefits of having a shepherd who genuinely cares and leads with heart; it drives us closer to the True Source and propels us out into our own respective “Jerusalems” to give our lives away too.
Do you have a leader you respect? How do you feel about the elders and pastors overseeing your church? About authority in general? How do you feel about submitting in marriage? I’d really love to know what you think about these things.
Write me at email@example.com any time- especially with questions about our India trip. And partner with us at heylovepodcast.com- we’d love to have you join us in prayer and/or support.
The Psalm Rob cites is Psalm 103. Here it is in the Amplified version- https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=psalm103&version=AMP and mine is Psalm 18 https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=psalm18&version=AMP
