As I was editing this week’s episode, I was so happy to stumble upon this enchanting piece, painted by my friend Nate Mather. I was especially happy to find out he named it “The Gift.” He had no way of knowing that we’d been tossing around the idea of calling this week’s episode by the same name as we’re discussing the role of the Holy Spirit in our day to day lives… what a “Gift” He is- Holy Spirit is a gift straight from the Father’s heart, through His Son Jesus, who saved the best for last.
When we abide in Jesus, the Holy Spirit’s activity changes the trajectory of our lives. It’s inevitable. You can’t abide in Jesus and steep in His Word and mingle your soul with His people WITHOUT changing inside. And like with shopping for groceries, a good place to start is always to take an inventory of what you “already have in the pantry.”
Here are some questions to ponder as you’re considering your need for the Holy Spirit;
How do you take criticsm?
How do you react when a friend experiences success?
Do you place your identity in your work or performance?
How do you respond to being exposed?
Are you able to own your redemption story? or acknowledge the rock from under which you crawled?
Do you freely apologize when you are convicted of being wrong?
What motivates the compulsive behavior you’re struggling with?
Do you know you’re loved by God? or do you worry there’s not enough of His Love to go around?
Is it hard for you to believe that all we’re asked to do is rest and receive? To repent and believe?
According to Experiencing God by Cloud and Blackaby, there are 5 main ways in which God speaks to us;
Through His word,
Through His people,
Through His Spirit,
I would add that being out in nature can also be a pathway for many of us. The Lord often speaks through His creation….

“We can pivot into 2017 with the assurance of being anchored to the very Spirit of Christ and the essence of who He is – His flawless Love, unexplainable Joy and beyond-all-logic Peace. He is our unshakable foundation. This world offers the temporal, fleeting and ever fluctuating “hope.” But in Christ, we can encounter and tap into an eternal, steadfast, supernatural and powerful LIFE in the midst of death around us and flip on the LIGHT in the midst of darkness that surrounds us.
